Fara Foundation is pleased to introduce board member and good friend Merriman Morton of Austin. A native Texan, former banker, and longtime philanthropist, he has an economics degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where he was past chairman of the board of trustees.
Merriman has been chairman of the United Way campaign in three Texas cities and has twice chaired M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute’s annual campain. He has been a board member and treasurer of St. David’s Health Care Foundation and served on the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce Executive Board, the Real Estate Council of Austin’s board of directors, and the Board of Visitors of the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute.
Mr. Morton has traveled to Nicaragua with the foundation three times and strongly believes in what is being accomplished at Fara Clinic in Matagalpa.
“The clinic has seen literally thousands of patients since it opened in late 2010. They focus on cervical cancer and breast cancer, but also, doctors and dentists go to help with all kinds of special missions — varicose vein surgeons, in particular. The problem of varicose vein disease is one that’s prevalent in that region.”
