This week, the Reeder brigade once again partners with Fara Foundation for a medical mission in northern Nicaragua. As the project continues over the following days, we will post updates on the mission and its progress.
We welcome our old friends from the Reeder Vein Institute in Dallas, and as always, we wish to express our gratitude for the team’s time and generosity. More to come!
Secondly, the year 2014 marked another banner year for the partnership between Fara Foundation and Amigos de Salud. In our largest joint mission of last year, Clinica Fara and the Amigos associates evaluated more than 1,000 patients during the September mission, and 846 were treated for vascular disease.
Led by American Dr. Donald Morrison and Italian Dr. Giovanni Mosti, the international team consisted of 28 medical specialists: 10 Italians, nine of which were doctors; three American doctors and their assistants. All told, the group included nurses, radiologists, sonographers, and of course our indefatigable volunteers from the U.S., Nicaragua and elsewhere. Of the patients treated in September, 81 percent were first-time patients and 18.5 percent were repeat ones.
As always, those who come in for treatment during a medical mission return to the clinic at little or no cost until their injuries are greatly improved or completely healed. These regular visits to northern Nicaragua are saving countless lives, and we thank our guest medical staff, and we are deeply grateful for our own devoted doctors at Clinica Fara — Dr. Ruth Rocha and Dr. Freddy Espinoza.
